Where to Buy German Candy in the USA: An Honest Guide

Storck Toffifee box – German caramel hazelnut chocolate cups

If you grew up with German candy, moved to the US, or just saw a Kinder Bueno on TikTok and wanted one, you have probably noticed something: finding the real thing here is harder than it should be. Here are the four realistic options, including the ones we do not sell.

Option 1: The international aisle at your supermarket

Bigger chains often carry a small European shelf. You will usually find Haribo Goldbears, a couple of Milka bars, sometimes Ritter Sport. It is cheap, you can have it today, and there is nothing wrong with it.

The catch is selection and origin. What sits on a US shelf is often produced for the North American market, which can mean a different pack size or a slightly different recipe than the same brand sold in Germany. If you are chasing a specific memory, flip the pack over and read where it was made before you decide it tastes different than you remember.

Option 2: Amazon, eBay and marketplace resellers

Fastest shipping, widest catalog, and by far the biggest variance in quality. Two things are worth checking before you click buy:

  • The best-before date. Marketplace candy can sit in a warehouse for a long time before it reaches you. Ask the seller if it is not listed.
  • Heat handling. Between roughly May and September, chocolate shipped without any thermal protection can arrive soft. It is still safe to eat, but it is not fun to unwrap.

Option 3: A German or European deli

If you live near one, this is genuinely the nicest way to buy German candy. You see the packs, you can ask, and you walk out with it the same day. German delis cluster in parts of the Midwest, Pennsylvania, Texas and a handful of big-city neighborhoods.

The downsides are obvious: most people do not live near one, opening hours are limited, and stock is hit and miss. Seasonal items in particular tend to be gone by the time you hear about them.

Option 4: Order directly from Germany

This is what we do at CandyHaus, so treat this section as what it is—our own option, described plainly.

We buy in Germany and ship the original products in their original packaging with German labels. No repacking, no imports of imports. Parcels go out with DHL and are fully tracked. Typical delivery to the USA is 7 to 14 business days after dispatch. Customs duties and import charges for the USA, Canada and the Gulf countries are included in the prices shown. There is nothing extra to pay on delivery.

The honest trade-off: this is not two-day shipping. If you want candy tomorrow, the supermarket wins. If you want the exact German version of something, ordering from the source is the only way to be certain.

How to check that it is actually German

Whichever route you take, these are quick tells on the packaging itself:

  • The front and the ingredient list are in German, not English
  • Weights are given in grams, not ounces
  • The best-before date is labeled Mindestens haltbar bis
  • European recycling marks are printed on the pack

None of this makes a US-market version bad. It just tells you which one you are holding.

Three good things to start with

If you are new to German candy and do not know where to begin, these three cover a lot of ground:

  • Toffifee—a hazelnut sitting in caramel, topped with nougat and chocolate. Probably the single most requested German candy by people who tried it once on a trip.
  • Knoppers—crispy wafer, milk cream and hazelnut. It is the German answer to a mid-morning snack and it has no real US equivalent.
  • The German Chocolate Box—if you would rather not pick, this bundle does the choosing for you and is the usual first order for gifts.

From there, browse the chocolate collection, the vegan and gelatin-free gummy candy if you avoid pork gelatin, our bundles for gifting, or simply see what everyone else is ordering in best sellers.
